They were wonderful people who stopped their car and chatted to my dad and us. After one of their holidays stays,I visit the house,by tractor when the tide was out to help bring some of their belongings to store in the boat house on the main land next to Sam Carroll's cottage.
I now live in Cape Town, South Africa and visit the farm where I born on each of my visits to Ireland.

Thanks for all the history a GREAT STORY!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12634352524010080366noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7048571566108279175.post-16953066998509050822021-06-30T14:08:42.440-07:002021-06-30T14:08:42.440-07:00Very interesting. Delighted to see the photos but also shocked as I had no idea the house was in such bad condition, I had heard it was a holiday home for an overseas business person- but that's very obviously not true. It's a disgrace that buildings like this are left in ruins. Very sad. Once again thanks for sharing a great article. She told me stories about it including rowing across and the rabbits. My Mum was called Mary McNulty. Her cousin Anthony Lynn also worked there and used to catch the rabbits and put them in a pie! As one who spent most of my childhood summers on the Island and my Mother's business carried the namesake of Bartra House Hotel, this has really resonated with me and flooded me with wonderful memories of both places. For that sir, many, many thanks indeed. Such a pity that none of the business proposals ever materialised. Fishermen still pull their boats in there and its a favourite picnic spot too. Wonderful island.
